Ola Onabule
Show Detail
Sat-31-Jan (7:00pm) - £18.00
Ola Onabule
Show Time 8:30pm / Doors Open 7pm

British-Nigerian singer-songwriter Ola's 8th album 'It’s The Peace That Deafens' (2014) is as much a work of exploration as it is a declaration: 12 evocative songs about identity, reconciliation and nostalgia with words, melodies and rhythms that walk a delicate tightrope of paradoxes. The album is born of both a childhood and adulthood immersed in two disparate cultures, on two different continents and at two different times. Ola’s mood is as resolute and certain as it is cautious and measured, suggesting the truth of the old adage: “The more you learn, the less you know for certain."

Florence Joelle
Fri-20-Feb (7:00pm):
Florence Joelle
Show Time 8:30pm / Doors Open 7:00pm

Florence Joelle is a London based singer, born in Paris, and it's the Gallic charm that seeps through her songs. It is also the spirit of the great Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone which provide starting points for her music. This is the sound of the smoky jazz clubs of the 1940's brought right up to date. An accomplished singer and blues harpist, she lets the rhythm guide her vocals with sometimes astonishing results. Her ‘Devil's Overdraft’ demonstrates her skills as those old clubs are evoked over a blues/jazz beat. Sparse musical accompaniment serve to colour the vocals as she swoops and sways over a story which Robert Johnson would have been proud to sing. The devil may very well be in Florence, but this is a playful one.
