Mike Paxton Quintet
Sat-05-Mar (11:59am):
Mike Paxton Quintet
Show Time 1:30pm / Doors Open midday

Drummer, composer, arranger Mike Paxton came to London in 1979, and was soon dividing his time between contemporary groups like Mick Pyne’s sextet and Henry Lowther’s quintet, and mainstream jazz with the Humphrey Lyttelton band, with whom he spent three years. Mike has worked with countless British jazz greats including Ronnie Scott, Peter King, John Taylor and Alan Skidmore. His first CD of his own compositions, ‘Song of the Even Dunes’, was released in 2015. It features Martin Shaw, Mornington Lockett, Robin Aspland and Alec Dankworth. The album was awarded 4 stars by Jazzwise magazine, declaring "The instrumentation might suggest just another hard bop combo: not so... As might be imagined with the calibre of musicians he has recruited, the playing is exemplary and Paxton’s drumming is up there with the best".
